ON SETTING GOALS
What I’m about to share might surprise you.
If you set a goal properly, you will get what you want. Always.
That’s what I came across today, reading about goal setting and wanted to share this powerful information with you guys so you can get the most out of every goal that you set, no matter how big or crazy it is!
The reason so many people fail at reaching their goals is they’re setting them the wrong way. They’re going after things they already know or they think they can do.
Earl Nightingale said, “Success is the progressive realisation of a worthy ideal”, meaning that if you know where you are and you know where you’re going, you’re already successful. As long as you set a goal you don’t already know how to achieve, you are progressing.
Another way of translating what Earl said is, “Success is continually moving toward making a worthwhile idea you’re in love with, real or a fact”.
We set goals to grow, not for the prize at the end of the line.We set goals that inspire us, that we love and that bring the best of us to the surface.
Stop reading for a moment and take a look at what you do each day. You can see that everything we do, is controlled by our habits and the daily routine we programmed ourselves with. What we have to do, is change those habits into better and more productive habits.
How? It’s really simple. You have to set a goal that you really, really want!
Why? Because the habits are the only barriers between you and your goals, so you need a goal that is bigger and more exciting than what you already know.
Here’s the secret I want you to know...
The three stages of creation: Fantasy, Theory, Fact.
1. Build your fantasy in your mind. Everything that you see around you, from the phone or laptop you’re reading this on, to the clothes you’re wearing, they all started as an idea in someone’s mind. Age, gender, money and resources have nothing to do with this, as well as what you’ve done in the past or wherever you are in the world.
Whatever you want to achieve, whether is changing the way you look and feel, create a successful business or travel the world, start by building a fantasy of what you want. Let your imagination run wild and don’t try and figure anything out.
2. A theory is an idea you’re starting to think about most of the time, the idea being your fantasy – what you would like to achieve or have or do.
3. Turn your theory into a goal by answering two questions:
1. Am I able to do this?
2. Am I willing to do this?
The first question will definitely be yes, because both science and theology states that we all have infinite potential and no one knows the limits we’re capable of.
The second question is the one that is crucial. How bad do you want it?
Let me tell you one thing.
If you don’t want it bad enough, you will simply not going to get it.
Because you will have to give up some things that you like to do and you will have to feel uncomfortable or experience pain. If you don’t want it bad enough, you won’t pay the price for what it takes to achieve your fantasy.
That could mean giving up on the sweet treats at night, doing the extra rep in a workout or pressing the snooze button in the morning.
When you answer yes to both questions, your theory turns into a goal. Now that you have the goal, you need to internalise it in your subconscious mind by adding emotion to it.
Now, when you add emotion to it, your energy and mood changes because of the feeling you have. That energy will cause you to act differently and it will set up an attractive force that brings everything you need including people, resources and money to turn that goal into a fact.
Let’s summarise what we learned.
1. Build your fantasy
2. Decide if you’re able and willing to do it.
3. Internalise the idea until moves into a fact.
All you have to give in return is your old habits. That’s all!
Once you achieved your goal, set up a new one. Don’t forget that we set goals to grow so you want to continue to grow with a new goal.
Happy goal setting!
